Vintage Adventure Card with Pull-Out Mug and Hidden Message
Hello crafters!
This vintage-inspired adventure card features a hidden message and a fun pull-out mug embellishment. Using the beautiful Stamperia Alterego collection, it has a timeless, travel-inspired theme, perfect for anyone with a love for exploration.
In this post, I’ll walk you through the project, and if you’re curious about each step, I have a video tutorial where I break down the entire process, from layering the vintage papers to creating the interactive elements. Let’s dive in!
Project Details and Materials
For this card, I used the Stamperia Alterego collection, which has a wonderful vintage aesthetic. The collection includes intricate designs like maps, compasses, clocks, and classic postcards that evoke a sense of adventure. Here’s a quick list of what I used to bring this project to life:
- Card base: Sturdy, neutral-colored cardstock
- Stamperia Alterego Collection: Patterned papers, vintage cut-outs, and embellishments
- Adhesives: Double-sided tape and glue for layering and assembling
- Twine: Adds a rustic touch to the pull-out element
- Inks and Distress Tools: For adding depth and texture
- Die-cut lor chipboard leaves

I’ve created 2 very similar cards using the same collection and pull out mug for both, but this can be made with any collection and any element.
Step-by-Step Creation Process
- Creating the Background:
I started by covering the card base with paper from the Stamperia Alterego collection. - Building the Layers:
Layering is key to creating a dimensional card! I added several layers with maps, clocks, and script elements from the collection. - Before attaching the second layer to the base plan where you will place your pull-out element and attach the sting to the bottom of the layer.
- Adding the Pull-Out Mug with Hidden Message:
One of the highlights of this card is the interactive pull-out mug! This small but impactful feature adds a playful element to the card. I designed the mug to be removable, tied to the card with a bit of twine. Behind the mug lies a secret message, adding an element of surprise for the recipient. - Embellishing with Die-Cut Leaves:
To bring the adventure theme to life, I added a few chipboard leaves in black. These small details enhance the overall feel and make the card look even more intricate. The contrast of the black leaves against the earthy tones draws attention to the focal point and adds a touch of elegance. - Final Touches:
As a finishing touch, I used splatters of white and black acrylic paint to add texture across the card.

Final Thoughts
I hope this project inspires you to create your own adventure-themed cards with interactive elements! The Stamperia Alterego collection has so much to offer with its rich designs and vintage appeal, and it’s incredibly versatile for creating cards, journals, and more. Don’t forget to try out the pull-out feature—it’s a delightful way to hide a message and add a little surprise to your creations.
