Adventure Awaits with Harrison Mini

Today I’m creating a scene around a character, as soon as I saw the Harrison Mini Cutting Die Set by Sizzix and Tim Holtz, I knew I wanted to place this little lion in a woodland setting. With his sweet expression and bow tie, Harrison looks ready for an adventure, so a forest backdrop felt like the perfect home for him.

To begin, I reached for an older Sizzix birch tree die and die-cut the forest panel from watercolour cardstock. To add depth and dimension, I softly inked around the edges of each tree trunk, creating subtle shadows that help the trees stand out and give the scene a more realistic feel. For the background, I started with a white card panel and blended blue ink across the top to represent the sky, followed by green ink along the bottom for the forest floor. Once I was happy with the colour blend, I adhered the birch tree panel over the background using foam pads. This added a wonderful dimension and helped create the illusion of looking through the trees into the forest beyond.

Next came the foliage. Using the Sizzix Garden Greens die set, I die cut lots of leafy branches and greenery in a variety of shades. I arranged the leaves around the top and bottom of the panel, framing the scene while leaving plenty of space in the centre for Harrison to take the spotlight.

Once the forest was complete, I assembled and positioned Harrison amongst the greenery. The layered die cuts bring so much personality to this little lion, and he looks perfectly at home nestled within the woodland setting.

To finish the card, I added the sentiment “Adventure Awaits”, which felt like the perfect match for the scene. A few splatters of white acrylic paint added texture and a touch of whimsy, while a small splatters of Distress Spritz in Fossilised Amber brought subtle shimmer and warm golden highlights throughout the foliage.

I love how this card turned out—the dimensional trees, lush greenery, and adorable Harrison combine to create a cheerful woodland scene full of character and charm. It’s a reminder that every adventure starts with a single step into the unknown!
