How to Make a Baby Card in 7 Steps | Cute Buggy Design Tutorial
Creating handmade cards is one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate life’s special moments—and today’s project is all about welcoming a new baby 👶
In this tutorial, I’m sharing my simple 7-step cardmaking method to create an adorable baby card featuring a buggy as the focal point. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced crafter, this process will help you design a balanced and beautiful card every time.
🌟 My 7-Step Cardmaking Method
This is the exact method I use to design most of my cards—it keeps everything structured while still allowing creativity.
1. Focal point
Start by selecting your main element / star of your card. I do it first, but I attach it to the card much later. For this card, the buggy is the star of the show 🍼
2. Card base
I love creating shaped cards or cards in unusual sizes, so this is an important step.
3. Background
Pattern paper or coloured cardstock? Now I’m deciding what goes in the background, I usually go with the soft pattern.
4. Layers
Build around your focal point with subtle layers, shapes, or textures that complement the buggy without overpowering it.
5. Texture
Use foam pads for layered elements to give your design depth. For textute I love to use scrps of fabric, twine, lace etc
6. Include a Sentiment
Add a sweet message like:
- “Welcome Baby”
- “It’s a Boy/Girl”
- “welcome to the world, litlle one”
Keep it clean and readable.
7. Finishing Touches
This is where everything comes together ✨
Add small embellishments like gems, dots, glitter or ribbon—but don’t overdo it. Keep it balanced. For me splats of white acrylic paint are a must!
This 7-step method is something you can reuse for any card theme—not just baby cards. Once you get comfortable with it, designing becomes so much easier and more enjoyable.
