DIY Fabric Flowers – Stamped Texture & Beaded Centers

Why 1-Layer Fabric Flowers?

Sometimes we don’t need bulky, multi-layer blooms. These single-layer flowers are:

  • Lightweight
  • Quick to create
  • Easy to adapt
  • Perfect for cards, handmade albums, journals, tags, mixed media and more

Because they’re made from fabric, they have that soft, natural look — but what really makes them special is the added texture.

Adding Texture with Stamping

In this tutorial, I show you how I use stamping to add subtle (or bold!) texture to the fabric before shaping the flowers. This step completely transforms plain fabric into something unique and artistic.

You can:

  • Keep it soft and vintage
  • Go bold and graphic
  • Match a specific collection
  • Create a distressed or shabby chic look

The stamping makes each flower one of a kind — no two will ever look exactly the same.

A Beaded Center Instead of Traditional Stamens

Instead of using classic flower stamens, I chose to use beads in the center.

This gives:

  • A more decorative finish
  • Extra dimension
  • The option to match metallics or colours in your project
  • A modern or elegant twist

You can use wood beads, glass beads, pearls, metal beads — whatever fits your style!

Fully Customisable for Any Project

One of the biggest reasons I teach flower making is so you never have to rely only on store-bought embellishments.

When you know how to make your own flowers, you can:

  • Control the size and shape
  • Adjust the texture

I always encourage my students to create flowers ahead of time so they have a ready-to-use stash. But you can also make them specifically for your current project — and that’s the beauty of knowing the technique.

Once you learn the base method, you can:

  • Play with different bead centers
  • Create seasonal variations
  • Scale them up or down
